My portfolio for CCS

Here is the Portfolio that I sent into CCS not too long ago. I am waiting to hear back from them about a scholarship. I hope for the best and that you will enjoy!

Below is a still life that I did in my advance drawing class. It is on grey charcoal paper and done in Rembrandt pastel. It was very fun to do but very challenging because I have only used pastels once before.

This is my self portrait that I did a little while back. It is on regular white charcoal paper. First a laid down a layer of very heavy charcoal and then slowly erased out the image of my face with a kneaded eraser.

Here is my still life that I did in basic drawing class. It, yet again, is done in regular white charcoal paper and with as you could guess charcoal! I did it a while ago I really like how dark I was able to get a lot it.

Heres a portrait that i did in figure drawing last semester. I usually have a hard time with figure drawing so I was really pretty happy with this one.

Here is another piece that I did in figure drawing of my favorite model steve! This is one of the harder pieces I did in this class because I was so not used to the pastels but I am happy about the way it turned out.

I know this is already up here on my blog but it is also in my portfolio so i thought I would re-list it because I am so in love with this piece. It is an ink wash done on illustration board I cant really say anything more than that beside I LOVE IT

This is my favorite hand that I have ever done. Its done on some oatmeal colored recycled paper that I got from the CCS bookstore. I love the paper and I love this piece. I used black and white prismacolor pencils.

I think this is kinda a goofy hand but when I went for my portfolio review the lady really seemed to like it so I just threw it in there. It is on 8.5x11 ink jet paper and done with a purple prismacolor pencil and a regular mechanical pencil.

This is one of my character concept designs. He is a salt shaker ninja and the enemy of Samurai slug (whom you will find right below). I did the sketch on inkjet paper with pencil scanned it in and colored it with photoshop CS2. I have not really had the time to make up the back story for them but I am sure you will see them again in the future.

And like I mentioned before this is samurai slug! these sketches are done on inkjet paper with prismacolor pencils nothing more nothing less! I really like this idea because it all seemed to mesh in together really well and I am very happy with how it turned out! let me know what you think about it.

This is another piece I did in my basic drawing class during the fall of 2009. It is done on american drawing paper and done with regular pencil. We were supposed to design and render a marvelous machine with a power source mine just have solar panels and a robot, snake and coin pouch. It does not make much sense but my teacher and a lot of other people liked it and I was happy how it turned out.
This is a sculpture from my advanced design class. We took 100 pound paper and had to make a sculpture where all planes were curved. I really liked how this turned out. I don't really understand sculpture that much but this one really makes me happy. I wanted to try and make it look like a pauldron from a suit of armor.
I did this anatomy study in my figure drawing class. I love how the muscles came out I am extremely happy with them because of how much detail I got in. Hope you like it.
I also had another piece done in copic but I cant seem to find a copy of it anywhere on my laptop. I will have to post it at another time.

Hands and a foot

These are just a couple hands and a foot a did a couple weeks ago. I was just playing around with different colored pencils and I liked the way they turned out. So here you go I hope you also like they way they look!

Zoo Books!

Here are just about the bulk of my zoo drawings. Every week I go to the Detroit Public Zoo to draw the animals. It is a great way to get in some memory practice and it's great for learning more about how animals move and what's going on in their bodies. These go from earliest to latest on the way down. In other words the top one is from my first week and the last one is from the last time I went. Enjoy!

Her is a peacock at the top who was intimidating another male. Fascinating! And at the bottom of this page was a seal that was swimming in the stream of a jet underwater! They are truly adorable and very childish.

Above is a drawing of the vultures which are my favorite animals to draw. Their movements are so interesting and how they look is extremely fascinating. A movie that really illustrates and animates these creatures well is the Jungle Book.

On this day I was drawing a tiger while she was sleeping. Their bodies are very flat when they lay down so it was kinda awkward trying to draw them.

When I came across the flamingos I had to draw them. I love the color and how the joints in their legs are opposite to just about every other animal out there.

Upon close inspection Zebras are very odd looking animals. Their stripes are very intricate but easily readable and they really add to the shape which is also very odd. They are very stocky animals.

I loved drawing the penguins! they remind me of men in the army always standing at attention and they just have a great shape that is easy to get drawn down so you can focus more on the details.

Giraffes are possibly the most difficult animals to draw because of their extremely long necks. But when you actually get them drawn well you have a great sense of achievement.

I still have a long way to go until I can be where I want to be in animal illustration. One person that does this great is David Coleman. You should visit his site and look at his portfolio and perhaps even purchase his great book! My friend just got his and inside David drew him an ostrich and an autograph.

Self Portrait

I did this self portrait During the Winter of 2010 for my Figure Drawing class at OCC. It was done on standard white charcoal paper. I filled the whole thing with black charcoal and then erased the image of my face out of it with a kneaded eraser. It was a long process but a very fun one and I think it turned out rather well and I am very happy with it. This is also going into my portfolio for CCS!

Twilight Towers

This is a city that was inspired by the Dark Elves from the game WarHammer. They have always been my favorite army and i wanted to do a large piece about them and their crazy cities made by dwarves with streets that go on and on ending in murder holes and violent culdesacs. I have read a book about the called the Chronicles of Malus Darkblade which really got me into this piece.

It is done on Standard Illustration board and is about 24" x 14" and is an ink wash done with regular tap water from the great city of Northville Michigan and that great black ink from india!!!!

It is going into my portfolio so i hope you all like it!
